Lay Abstract

Although various studies have shown the efficacy of conventional isometric, Pilates and yoga exercises; data as regards the effects (and comparison) of these specific exercises on the cervical muscle morphology is lacking. We investigated the effects of different exercise programs on neck muscles in 56 patients with chronic neck pain. After six weeks of treatment, our study showed that all the three types of exercises had favorable effects concerning pain and functional scores, but no differences among the groups except for the Pilates group where semispinalis capitis muscle increased in thickness.
